Palm Shows Signs of Intelligence, Kills Foleo
Palm announced today that the company has KILLED THE FOLEO, its disastrously conceived mini-PC designed to act as a peripheral device for Treo smart phones. Even though it was a good move to kill the Foleo, this whole episode is yet another in which the company reverses direction. As I wrote in a Computerworld column called, “The decline and fall of the Palm empire”:
Palm merges with another company only later to be spun off. The company ignores the founders’ direction, only to later acquire their start-up and take up its direction. Palm spins out the software division only later to buy back the rights to it. Palm gives up the Palm trademark only to later buy it back.
Add the Foleo to the long list of expensive reversals by Palm.
