New Surveillance Camera Hides Faces
UC Berkeley scientists are working on a “respectful” surveillance camera that automatically identifies faces in the video and COVERS THEM WITH AN OVAL to maintain the privacy of people videotaped. If there’s a crime, investigators can remove the “ovals” to see who’s on tape. The smart camera system can also block the faces only of people wearing a special badge. The idea is that for secure buildings, authorized employees (with badges) maintain privacy on video, but others don’t.
