Whenever you hear stats about Twitter’s growth (exponential or flat), it helps to know that many of those stats merely count visitors to the Twitter.com Web site, but that only 20% of Twitter users actually visit the site, according to Twitter’s lead engineer. The rest interact with Twitter through the huge variety of third-party apps.
