This giant skeleton sculpture was created by Gino De Dominicis and is being displayed in the Palazzo Reale in Milan. And if they put some flesh on this thing, they might actually a get life-sized replica of my penis.

It would be one thing if the Steampunk Workshop had just salvaged an old telegraph machine and hacked it to translate RSS feeds for kicks, but no, these guys went all out and machined by hand what is at the same time one of the best-looking and most useless projects we’re ever seen. Still, modding culture doesn’t necessarily place the highest value on functionality, and the detailed instructions and videos provided by SW ensure that you can come up with something just as polished. Anyway, this one looks like it’s gonna take you awhile — especially if you don’t have your own band saw — so take a quick peek at the vid after the break and then get on over to the hardware store post haste; and you do manage to build a working replica, don’t forget to do the totally meta thing and send us a vid or MP3 of your creation tap tap tapping this very post out in Morse Code.

Sure, there’s quite a few way to circumvent the effects of asthma, but a new development coming out of McMaster University in Canada suggests that radiofrequency treatment can actually curb the amount of asthma attacks suffered by asthmatics. The device, which “uses radio waves to heat the muscle lining of patients’ airways,” is used to administer a trio of sessions, and while the actual root cause is still unknown, it seems to cause a reduction in the smooth muscle lining the airways, subsequently making breathing less of a chore. The probe isn’t the most comfortable, however, as it must first make its way through your nose or mouth in order to reach the lung airways, after which the tip is “heated using radio waves.” The procedure is known as bronchial thermoplasty, and while the funding company (Asthmatx) has yet to elicit a thumbs-up from the FDA, it could certainly become a viable alternative for asthma sufferers. It’s about time these free-flying transmissions made up for the harm they’ve caused, eh?

According to CNET, Cingular [aka, the new AT&T] has “confirmed” June 11 as the release date for Apple’s iPhone. Keep in mind that confirmation in this case is unofficial as it supposedly comes from a front-line sales support person. See, after a call to Cingular’s customer service, CNET was transfered to sales where they were told of the magical date. Of course, all this makes perfect sense as the 11th also marks the kickoff of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference where Steve and Co are always keen to announce new wares.

Seven years after the inimitable Ben Heckendorn‘s original VCSp, we’re presented with the latest iteration in his portable console’s lineage. The new VCSp is apparently Ben’s most finely crafted portable Atari system to date, even featuring the skillful placement of cartridge-as-screen-shade and the fine white plastic frame roughly the size of a chunky Game Boy Advance. The best part: if you ask nicely (can hack up some cash) Ben might even consider making one for you. Just tell ‘im Engadget sent ya.

So along with new video resolutions, some slight PSone tweaks, and what was no doubt a bit of homebrew-busting code, it looks like the recently released 3.30 firmware for PSP also came bearing another little gift, in the form of a six-month pass to T-Mobile’s WiFi Hotspot network. To cash in this sweet little freebie, all you have to do is setup a new connection when in range of any of the Mob’s ‘spots, and a new icon will appear that allows you to trigger the promotional period. Now of course nothing in this world is totally free, and the real reason for this present seems to be hooking users on the service and then offering them a “special rate” at the end of the trial — but hey, since you don’t need to submit a credit card or remember to cancel anything, we don’t see any reason not jump right in.

When you think about it, Vertus and Ferraris have a lot in common: just as Ferraris give a select few the opportunity to spend an insane amount of cash on an object that provides little more value than a, say, $1,000 used car, Vertu offers a product with little additional value (and in some cases, less value) than phones offered free from carriers. Of course, you can’t put a price on status, so getting these two status symbols to hook up and co-brand a device seems like a match made in heaven (more appropriate than a Ferrari-branded Moto, for example). The “Ferrari Challenge” rendition of the Ascent — in red and black leather — is limited to 1,947 examples (can that many people in the world really afford this thing?), each featuring a couple well-placed Ferrari logos and some weird thing on the back that’s apparently supposed to look like a brake pedal. Look for it to grace your local Vertu retailer in July — but please don’t use it while driving, lest you destroy your real Ferrari, k?

This brilliant (but obviously insane) Japanese chef created the Water Fryer, which is a fish bowl at the bottom of his deep fryer. Because the oil and water don’t mix, as long as the fish stay low they’re okay. Plus the crumbs from the deep fryer drop to the bottom which the fish eat as food. The fish allegedly live for up to 10 years as long they stay away from the oil. Or 2 seconds, if they come within reach of my mouth.
