Yep, it’s a coffin. Mobile phones have become such a critical part of our daily lives, and apparently they’re becoming a critical part of our deaths now, too — but if you’re going to spend the rest of eternity inside a single phone, do you really want it to be a Nokia 7250? Seriously?
Chris: “Giving ‘Early Termination Fee’ a whole new meaning.”
Ryan: “Nokia: connecting dead people.”
Paul: “Of course it comes with an FM radio!”
Sean: “Though it will never pass the pocket test, the coffin does include the rarely used AG2GP (Audio Grave to Grave) Bluetooth profile.”
Evan: “*Casket will only work in certain graveyards, $200 reburial fee applicable”

The Rolling Bridge is designed by Heatherwick Studio and is located in London. Instead of a regular bridge mechanism, the rolling bridge is made in eight steel and timber sections, and is made to curl by hydraulic rams set into the handrail between each section. Throw some legs on this thing and you’ve got the world’s biggest rolly polly.

If a lowly blogger could die from awesomeness, we’re pretty sure we’d be keeling over right about now. The Lego Mindstorms geekz0rs over at BattleBricks have managed to reach new heights of human ingenuity, melding a Mindstorms NXT kit, some clever programming and Nintendo’s Wii to create an unstoppable bowling machine capable of tossing a perfect game without breaking a sweat, growing a nasty mustache, or sporting a beer belly. While the BattleBricks folks don’t provide precise instructions on how to build this yourself, they’ve got plenty of evidence that it does, indeed, bowl like a champ. So peep the action video after the break, and then start plotting your own NXT creation conquer some other form of automated Wii Sports point inflation — we never could quite get the hang of tennis.

Going to the slammer because of the PlayStation 3 (sadly) isn’t the most uncommon of occurrences, but if you’re headed off to a British prison, we certainly hope you weren’t counting on getting your game on with Sony’s latest whilst locked up. Home Secretary John Reid has made clear that Sony’s latest console simply won’t be allowed within UK jails, as its ability to “send and receive radio signals” lends itself to becoming an illegal communication device with the “outside world.” After getting over the slightly unbelievable tidbit that such luxuries would even be considered as a prison amenity, we also noticed that Mr. Reid feared that the PS3 could communicate with the PSP via WiFi, giving him yet another reason not to blow thousands of pounds to entertain convicted criminals. And before you try to sneak one of these beasts in via a sly underground tunnel, we’ve no doubt that Murphy will be all over those taboo data transmissions before you can even read up on old emails.

For some odd reason — and a most fortuitous one for us — the rebate team never seems to quite get in sync with the launch team for a good percentage of handset launches, giving us tantalizing glimpses at the future of cellphones now and then, or at least a model name to go on. This time we’ve got all we could ask for out of this common snafu, since friendly tipster AJ managed to track down a rebate form for the much-rumored Sidekick ID on T-Mobile’s site that not only promises a handy $50 to whoever can navigate its tricksy questions, but also gives us a likely sounding April 18 launch date to mull over, along with our first full-on “press shots” of the phone. The cute, pared down exterior is further complemented by a selection of primary colors, as seen above, making this a likely pick for the budget-minded “I don’t need no stinkin’ EDGE data” fashionphone set. In fact, with prices like these ($99.99 after a $50 rebate), why not just buy ‘em all to mix and match with your outfits? You know you want to.
[Thanks, AJ]

We know you’re starting to get a little tired of the aerial on that 700p of yours; no, seriously, we feel your pain. You’re looking longly at that 680 over there, but the leap over to Cingular — and to GSM, for that matter — can be a treacherous one indeed for some users. Happily, the 755p is coming just in time to save the day before you all go out of your gourds, and for a Garnet-based EV-DO piece, she’s looking mighty purty. A reader wrote in to describe his recent brush with the 755p to us, and came away with the impression that it’s slimmer, lighter, and easier to hold thanks to concave surfaces on the phone’s sides. A couple launch keys on the front side have disappeared (leaving only two), the stylus is a little lighter, and although the camera is still a mere 1.3 megapixels, pictures are apparently of a much higher quality. Music to a weary 700p user’s (or, better yet, a 650 user’s) ears, eh? See you in the next couple months!
[Thanks, James]

We had a sneaking suspicion that there was an ulterior motive behind Raleigh getting lit up as the “world’s first LED city,” and aside from savings tons of dough on energy bills over the next decade or so, it seems to make motorists feel a good bit safer, too. According to a before and after survey conducted by Mindwave Research, the number of respondents who “perceived the garage as very safe increased by 76-percent after the LED fixtures were installed.” Admittedly, the newfangled lighting certainly added a new level of brightness to the situation, and the number of individuals who gave the garage an overall rating of “excellent” increased by 100-percent in response. The (unnecessarily lengthy) survey also added a few more minor figures to further prove that LED lighting is simply superior to the other stuff , but we’re not yet sure if Cree will successfully use this ammunition to grab even more contracts to freshen up the city lights.
